The conference centre is just one of the many innovative and striking buildings to be found at the Earth Centre. The Bill Dunster - designed conference centre is constructed largely from reclaimed materials including telegraph poles, crushed concrete, glass and radiators.
Low energy techniques are used throughout to light, heat and cool this unique facility.
The judges said:
"This is the highly sustainable public face of the Earth Centre in Doncaster designed to take advantage of recycling and other low-energy techniques. The building features a wall of piled stones - recycled materials included concrete, bricks, glass and radiators."
