Memorial Gardens

Conceived to honour the men and women of the Metropolitan Police who have lost their lives on active service, the Memorial Gardens at the Peel Centre offer serenity in a built-up area.

Churchman Landscape Architects' understated design incorporates three gently ascending terraces and 200 donated roses and forms a fitting memorial.

The judges said:

"Landscape design can sometimes be overlooked in public projects but in this case landscape design is the project. The Memorial Gardens in Hendon give a sense of calm, even though they are surrounded by substantial buildings. The combination of planting and hard landscaping is exemplary."
